Today is the last full day of fishing at Alaska King Salmon Adventures. It’s incredible to think that just a month ago the camp crew was setting up camp and now we’re about to break it down. This summer compared to past summers on the Nushagak was incredibly dry. A winter with little snow pack, coupled with two straight weeks of no rain and temperatures close to 80 degrees, made for some beautiful days but not so great for salmon fishing.   It was conditions rarely encountered on the Nushagak or anywhere in Alaska. In the past month alone the water dropped around three to four feet and was crystal clear with virtually unlimited visibility.  This was a unique season to say the least!

All this considered we had a lot stronger fishing at the beginning then we did at the end. Across the board guides landed anywhere from 60 to 10 fish per day per boat. Our guides either were plugging quick fish with sardine wraps or dragging eggs as their methods of catching. Every morning, our clients enjoyed coffee and a hearty breakfast by Chef David. When their day ended our AKSA staff was ready to process fish while the clients enjoy a drink and appetizer by the fire before dinner.

This summer at AKSA we’ve had clients from all over the world, including: Germany, Russia, Canada, Ireland and people from all over the United States. Some were repeat clients and others it was there first time with us.  All left as new friends looking forward to their next trip. We had families with kids as young as seven and corporate groups that knew how to party. We always try to make our guests as comfortable as possible no matter how old they are or what they might enjoy to do while at camp. We enjoyed many nights by the campfire with guitar playing and great fun. The past month has been full of great fishing days, some not so great fishing days, fun bonfires, awesome food, and not much sleep. Not only does Alaska King Salmon Adventures provide great fishing but we also know how to have a great time on land. If you haven’t been fishing with Alaska King Salmon Adventures yet, we hope next year is your year to join us in some of the best fishing Alaska has to offer, you wont regret it!
